Volunteering with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition

Janine Nubani (formerly Janine Nubani Contursi) has significant experience in communications, marketing, advertising, and video production. Active in various charities when not busy with her career, she has served on the board of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, a nonprofit organization that offers a number of opportunities to volunteers interested in supporting its mission of fighting against ovarian cancer and improving the quality of life for those who have it.

The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) encourages individuals interested in volunteering to connect with their local NOCC chapter. The NOCC maintains more than 20 chapters across the United States, which sponsor local events that benefit people in their communities. Among such NOCC activities is the Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer, an annual fund- and awareness-raising event that several NOCC chapters hold in September.

Because women most often receive ovarian cancer diagnoses in the later stages of the disease, at which point potential treatments are far less effective, the NOCC focuses specifically on spreading awareness about the importance of early diagnosis. The NOCC encourages individuals who want to participate in this endeavor to engage with its Early Awareness Initiative, which consists of the Take Early Action & Live program and the Take Action, Not Chances campaign. Volunteer opportunities include maintaining exhibits at health fairs, distributing educational resources, and campaigning on social media.
